What I Aspire to Achieve: My Expectations

After completing graduate school less than two years ago, I’ve enrolled in a fascinating and one-of-a-kind course called “Managing Happiness” at Harvard University. This course is led by the esteemed professor, Arthur Brooks.

As a health and wellness reporter, I’ve observed a universal interest in articles about happiness. People are naturally drawn to the topic and are eager to gain more knowledge and experience in pursuing happiness. After all, happiness has been proven to enhance our overall well-being and longevity.

However, many of us struggle to understand how to maintain happiness, which is where this Harvard course aims to provide valuable insights.

The course’s online module is currently offered for free until March 27, 2024, for audit purposes only. If you wish to receive a verified certificate from the university, it will cost you $229. The course is self-paced but should be completed within six weeks to retain access to materials and progress.

Even in the early stages of the course, I already find myself pondering numerous questions.

My Expectations for Harvard’s Free Happiness Course

The course’s tagline, “Happiness is within your control. Write your own ending,” prompted me to contemplate a significant question: Do we truly have complete control over our happiness?

As I progress through this “Harvard student” experience for six weeks, I hope to gain further insight or find answers to the following inquiries:

  • How frequently should we experience happiness?
  • Is it realistic to expect perpetual happiness?
  • How can we prioritize happiness without falling into the trap of toxic positivity?
  • When dealing with difficult people, especially in relation to our experiences, how can we safeguard our happiness?
  • How can we cultivate happiness during challenging times?

I anticipate sharing the insights I gather from this course and hopefully finding answers to these thought-provoking questions. Who knows? Perhaps this journey will contribute to a heightened sense of happiness.
