Wests Tigers Implement Surprising Changes Following Wooden Spoon Catastrophe – Including Easing Players of Bag Duty

Tigers Agree to Odd Changes for 2024

The Wests Tigers have reportedly made some bizarre changes to how they operate in 2024, which include having beer in the sheds after games and telling players they don’t have to carry their own bags.

The struggling club, known for its lack of success, has failed to make a finals series in 12 years. Additionally, they have lost key players like James Tedesco and Josh Addo-Carr to other clubs, and have earned back-to-back wooden spoons in the last two seasons.

According to a Nine report, Tigers officials held a meeting with the aim of ‘doing things better’ next season. The decisions made at the meeting are sure to leave long-suffering fans scratching their heads.

One decision is that the gear steward will travel to away footy games half a day early, relieving players of the burden of carrying their bags on trips. Another change is that players will be allowed to have beers after games in the sheds.

Wests Tigers are also in search of a new head of football, and there has been speculation that they are targeting former Wallabies coach Michael Cheika for the role.

The club’s chairman, Lee Hagipantelis, spoke highly of Cheika, stating that he is of good character and well-regarded by people. Hagipantelis mentioned that all applicants and candidates for the head of football role are being considered privately and confidentially.

There have also been reports that the club is considering re-hiring former general manager Mark O’Neill, seven years after he left the club.

Recently, departing Tigers coach Tim Sheens decided not to attend the club’s end of season presentation night, where his career was set to be celebrated. Sheens, who led the team to an NRL premiership in 2005, was informed in August that his services were not required next year. Benji Marshall was appointed as the new coach 12 months early, which may have contributed to Sheens’ decision.

Sheens’ future in rugby league remains uncertain. It was previously understood that he was interested in returning to a head of football role at the Tigers, but it seems that the club is moving in a different direction.
