Volodymyr Zelenskyy Raises Concerns: Ukraine’s Defeat Could Trigger World War III

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appeals to the United States to continue supporting Ukraine in its battle against Russia, emphasizing that a potential defeat could trigger World War III.

In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” broadcast Sunday, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the support provided by America thus far, stressing that the financial assistance serves a larger purpose in restraining Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ambitions.

“If Ukraine falls, what will be the repercussions in 10 years? Ponder over it,” Zelenskyy informed CBS’s Scott Pelley. “If the Russians advance to Poland, what comes next? A third global conflict?”

When asked if the war would require an additional $70 billion, which roughly matches the total assistance provided by the U.S. to Ukraine thus far, Zelenskyy responded, “I don’t have an answer.”

He emphasized that the outcome would depend on the world’s determination to defeat Putin.

“We cannot change Putin,” Zelenskyy stated. “Russian society has lost the respect of the world. They elected and reelected him, essentially raising a second Hitler. We can’t reverse time, but we can put a halt to it here.”

Zelenskyy also anticipates Putin to continue using nuclear weapons as a threat against Ukraine during the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election.

“He is waiting for the United States to become less stable. He believes that will happen during the U.S. election,” Zelenskyy cautioned.

The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to visit Washington later this week, where he will meet with President Joe Biden at the White House and visit Capitol Hill as part of his trip for the United Nations General Assembly. This visit comes at a crucial time as Biden seeks congressional approval for a $24 billion package for Kyiv, a request that has faced opposition from hard-line Republicans, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he expects to meet with Zelenskyy as well, according to Punchbowl News.

Congressional lawmakers have already approved a total of $113 billion for Ukraine, with $70 billion allocated for security and intelligence, among other areas, according to The New York Times.
