Renowned voice actor Johnny Hardwick, best known for his role as Dale Gribble in the animated series “King of the Hill,” has passed away at the age of 64, as confirmed by the Travis County Medical Examiner office of Austin to CBS News.
In the show, Hardwick voiced the character Dale Gribble, an eccentric exterminator and conspiracy theory enthusiast. “King of the Hill” aired from 1997 to 2010, and Hardwick was a part of the series from its very first episode.
Hardwick’s contributions to the series were not limited to voicing Dale Gribble. He also received an Emmy in 1999 for Outstanding Animated Program for his work on the show and earned two additional nominations in 2001 and 2002. Apart from voice acting, Hardwick also served as a staff writer, story editor, and producer for “King of the Hill.”
Earlier this year, it was announced that a revival of “King of the Hill” would be coming to Hulu, with many of the original cast members, including Hardwick, agreeing to participate.
“King of the Hill” was originally created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. The series also starred Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, and Lauren Tom.
Before his breakthrough as a voice actor, Hardwick started his career as a stand-up comedian in 1990. After his time on “King of the Hill,” he continued to entertain fans through his YouTube channel, posting song parodies and comedy videos, which garnered nearly 20,000 subscribers.
