Dobbs, once the No. 2 quarterback on the Browns’ depth chart, has found himself on the move again. The Cardinals acquired him to be their starter while Murray recovered from an injury. Just a week before facing his former team, Dobbs is once again changing teams.
Although Dobbs has struggled recently, with fumbles in five consecutive games and interceptions in three of his last four, he has become a quick fix for teams in need. Last season, the 28-year-old made his first career NFL start for the Titans, chosen over rookie Malik Willis. Now, he has a chance to provide the Vikings with an experienced hand after Cousins’ unfortunate injury.
So far this season, Dobbs has thrown for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions.
From the NFL’s worst team, Dobbs is now joining the second-place Vikings, who have a talented receiving corps that could welcome back Justin Jefferson from injury in the coming weeks. In addition to acquiring Dobbs, the Vikings also made a deal to send offensive lineman Ezra Cleveland to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While O’Connell and the Vikings coaching staff can’t fully replace Cousins and his Pro Bowl level of play, they are doing their best to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
