The response to the video has been overwhelming, with individuals expressing their horror and shock. Last year, a survey conducted by UK-based dermatology specialists Aventus Clinic revealed that makeup brushes can contain more bacteria than a toilet seat. They swabbed 12 brushes and a toilet seat, and shockingly, 11 out of 12 brushes were found to be dirtier than the toilet.
The study identified eyeshadow as the worst offender, followed by blusher tools and lip gloss. Images from the tests showed a makeup brush for eyeshadow covered in fuzzy blue and green mold, while the foundation brush left behind trails of blood-red bacteria.
Dr. Suhail Alam, the medical director at Aventus Clinic, expressed his concern, stating, “It’s alarming to see the amount of bacteria that could potentially reside on a makeup brush. However, it’s not entirely surprising. Even after the first use, makeup brushes start accumulating bacteria. With daily use, they collect dirt, pollutants, oil, and dead skin cells, creating an environment that promotes bacterial growth and increases the risk of breakouts and skin irritations.”
