French basketball prodigy Victor Wembanyama (R) is poised to secure the coveted first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, scheduled for Thursday in Brooklyn. This highly anticipated event will be broadcasted live on ESPN and ABC.

The draft will commence at 8 p.m. EDT at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, with the second round airing later on ESPN. Wembanyama’s exceptional skills have made him widely regarded as one of the most promising prospects in recent memory.

When asked about the external expectations surrounding him, Wembanyama confidently stated, “I don’t allow all this hype to affect me. My own expectations for myself are so high that I am impervious to it.”

Last month, the San Antonio Spurs secured the first overall pick in the draft lottery, granting them the opportunity to select Wembanyama. The Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets, and Detroit Pistons also possess top-five picks.

The draft order for picks six through ten belongs to the Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, Utah Jazz, and Dallas Mavericks, respectively.

Wembanyama and the Spurs essentially confirmed his commitment to the team after the draft order was determined. The versatile center-forward from Le Chesnay, France, showcased outstanding abilities throughout the season for Metropolitans 92 of Betclic Elite, the premier French league, averaging 21.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.1 blocks, and 2.5 assists per game.

Renowned for his soft shooting touch and impressive ball handling skills, Wembanyama has impressed scouts and analysts with his remarkable talent and potential.

The draft will feature thirty first-round selections, with other top prospects including former Alabama guard-forward Brandon Miller, G-League guard Scoot Henderson, and Overtime Elite twin brothers Amen Thompson and Ausar Thompson.

In many mock drafts, Miller is expected to be chosen by the Hornets with the second overall pick, while Henderson is the favored selection for the Trail Blazers at number three.
