Urgent Alert: Israel Urges Over 1 Million People to Evacuate Northern Gaza – Stay Safe!

Israel’s military issued a warning to over 1 million people to evacuate Gaza City, calling it a “forced displacement.” The Palestinians objected to this, and the UN described it as “calamitous.” The warning, given to half the population of the Gaza Strip, came with a 24-hour deadline, while Israel continued its bombardment. The Israel Defense Forces dropped leaflets stating that the civilians of Gaza City should relocate south for their safety and distance themselves from the Hamas terrorists using them as human shields. The IDF stated that the evacuation is necessary for their safety and that they can only return when another announcement permits it. Raising concerns, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas compared the displacement to the “second Nakba,” a reference to Israel’s foundation in 1948 when many Palestinians were expelled or fled. He also called for humanitarian corridors to Gaza.

Israel declared war and launched air strikes on Hamas-controlled Gaza after armed gunmen crossed the border, killing civilians and soldiers and kidnapping dozens. Israel’s President, Isaac Herzog, blamed all Palestinians in Gaza for the attack, stating that they were aware and involved. The IDF promised to operate significantly in Gaza City while making efforts to avoid harming civilians. However, Palestinian authorities reported over 1,500 deaths since the escalation began.

Some interpreted the warning as a sign of an imminent ground operation targeting the city and the north of the enclave. The UN’s humanitarian and security teams were informed of the relocation order, and the Gaza population was advised to relocate to the south within 24 hours. The Israeli military did not confirm the deadline but noted that the process would take time.

Amidst confusion and queues forming at petrol stations, Hamas’s interior ministry told people to stay in place. However, the UN warned that the movement would have devastating consequences, and the IDF claimed to be controlling their attacks to provide a safe way for evacuation.

The UN’s agency for Palestinian relief called on Israel to protect the people in its shelters, stressing that they must never come under attack due to international humanitarian law. The situation in Gaza was described as a “hell hole” on the brink of collapse. While Gaza residents face severe travel restrictions and an IDF blockade, talks with Egypt to open a humanitarian corridor or refuge hub have not been successful.

As tensions from the conflict spread globally, an Israeli embassy employee was attacked in Beijing, highlighting the impact of the conflict beyond the region.
