UPS driver tragically passes away days after enduring scorching Texas temperatures

A tragic incident occurred in Texas when a UPS driver fell ill during an intense heatwave and unfortunately passed away.

According to UPS, Christopher Begley, a 57-year-old employee, became sick earlier this month while on his delivery route in North Texas, where temperatures soared above 100 degrees. The cause of death is still under investigation.

UPS expressed their commitment to training their employees to recognize the symptoms of heat stress and providing immediate assistance. They are fully cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation of Begley’s death.

This unfortunate incident occurred just a month after UPS reached an agreement with the Teamsters Union, which includes the installation of air conditioning in delivery vans and other improvements to working conditions for drivers.

Begley, who had been with UPS for 27 years, initially reported feeling unwell on August 23. He was immediately taken off duty and later requested and received multiple days off from work.

UPS promptly responded to Begley’s call for assistance, providing him with water and a cool environment to rest in. However, Begley declined medical aid several times, claiming he had recovered.

A few days later, UPS management learned that Begley had been admitted to the hospital, where he tragically passed away.

The installation of AC units in UPS delivery trucks was a contentious issue during contract negotiations with the union, with drivers sharing photos of thermometers reading temperatures as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Public outrage was sparked by a viral video showing a UPS driver collapsing from apparent heat exhaustion last summer.
