July 12 (UPI) — United Airlines introduced updated first class passenger seating for its narrowbody domestic fleet, a significant renovation since 2015.

The new seats are made of vegan leather and come equipped with 13-inch seatback screens, 18-inch tray tables, and Bluetooth connectivity.

The seats are arranged in a two-by-two configuration and have an 11-by-19-inch barrier between them.

United is currently in the process of renewing its fleet, with over 90 new planes expected to be added by the end of the year, and more than 140 by the end of 2024.

The first class passenger cabins will debut on United’s Boeing 737 aircraft later this month. The airline plans to install the new configurations on 200 planes by 2026.

These planes include next-generation 737s and 737 MAXs, as well as the Airbus A321neo, all of which operate on the company’s domestic routes.

Both Delta Airlines and JetBlue are also in the process of renovating the interiors of their aircraft, intensifying the competition.

United solidified its plans to upgrade its fleet interiors in June 2021.

The recent announcement from United coincided with the airline’s confirmation that it will install three types of wireless charging ports in each seat, allowing passengers to charge up to three devices simultaneously using wireless, AC, and USB-C outlets located in armrest compartments.

“This new United First seat is designed for the modern traveler, offering more charging options, larger spaces for devices, food, drinks, and personal items, as well as enhanced privacy,” said Mark Muren, United Managing Director of Identity, Product, and Loyalty.

“As we evolve the onboard experience, we are challenging traditional industry norms and anticipating future needs to accommodate the changing ways people live and travel,” Muren added.
