Upgrade Your Kia Sonet Music System: Car Owner Spends a Whopping Rs 29 Lakh on High-End Audio Enhancement for Rs 14 Lakh Car

An extraordinary car enthusiast, who goes by the name ‘flipflop’ on Team-BHP forum, has made headlines for his incredible investment of Rs 29 lakh to upgrade the audio system in his Kia Sonet. The vehicle itself cost around Rs 14 lakh. According to a report in TOI, ‘flipflop’ was dissatisfied with the existing Bose premium seven-speaker sound system on the higher variants of the Kia Sonet, prompting him to undertake this remarkable modification.

To put this astounding expenditure into perspective, it is worth noting that the Kia Sonet X-Line variant, owned by ‘flipflop,’ has been discontinued. However, the last known price for this variant ranged from Rs 13.89 lakh to Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Surprisingly, the cost of the audio upgrade exceeds the value of the SUV itself, almost reaching twice the original price.

Describing his passion, ‘flipflop’ said, “I have always treated my car as my solace, my personal space, my escape, and my quick getaway from the mundane – my absolute sanctuary. And the quality of music in my sanctuary takes priority over everything else, regardless of the cost of the vehicle itself.”

The enhancements made to the Kia Sonet’s audio system include premium components such as Focal Utopia M speakers, Helix Ultra DSP, Ground Zero Reference amplifiers, Focal Beriliyum tweeters, and various other improvements. The vehicle has also undergone extensive soundproofing and dampening to reduce cabin noise levels (NVH) and enhance overall sound quality by minimizing disturbances. The user also reinforced the vehicle’s doors to increase their strength. While the exact breakdown of costs and a comprehensive list of upgrades remain undisclosed, the modifications were carried out in Chennai.
