Unveiling the NFL History Breaker: Meet the Newly Crowned Highest-Paid Player

Joe Burrow becomes NFL’s new king with the most lucrative contract in the history of the league. According to ESPN, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback has signed a record-breaking five-year deal worth $275 million. USA Today confirms the news, stating that Burrow’s contract surpasses the previous record held by Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers, who signed a five-year deal for $262.5 million. Burrow’s contract translates to a staggering $55 million per season, with $219 million guaranteed. However, it falls short of the $230 million in guaranteed money received by quarterback Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns.

In a recent interview with reporters in Cincinnati, Burrow expressed his commitment to the team, stating, “This is where I want to be my whole career.” He is widely recognized for transforming the Bengals into a successful franchise, leading them to two consecutive AFC North titles and a Super Bowl appearance in 2021, although they lost to the Rams. According to the AP, Burrow’s career stats include 11,774 passing yards, 82 touchdowns, 31 interceptions, and a career passer rating of 100.4. In the regular season, he holds a record of 24-17-1, and in the playoffs, he boasts a 5-2 record as a starter. Despite a calf injury during training camp, Burrow is expected to play in the season-opener against the Browns, as reported by the Athletic. (Read more Joe Burrow stories.)
