Unprecedented Demand for iPhone 15 Surpasses Expectations as Global Consumers Form Lengthy Queues to Purchase

If you’re interested in getting your hands on the highly coveted iPhone 15, expect to wait your turn.

The iPhone 15 made its global debut on Friday, causing long lines at Apple stores across the United States, China, and Europe. These crowds highlight the strong demand for Apple’s latest smartphone, despite its higher price tag. The basic iPhone 15 is priced at $800, while the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro retail for $900 and $1,000 respectively.

According to analysts from Wedbush Securities, part of this demand stems from consumers who are finally ready to trade in their older devices for something new. “Taking a step back, it’s all about the pent-up demand,” say Daniel Ives, John Katsingris, and Steven Wahrhaftig in a note on Friday. “We estimate that there are 250 million iPhones that have not been upgraded in over four years. This, combined with massive carrier discounts and the advanced camera technology in the iPhone 15 Pro/Max, has catalyzed consumers to upgrade.”

The iPhone 15 has already surpassed expectations with 10% to 12% more pre-orders than its predecessor, the iPhone 14. The demand is especially high for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, with the latter model receiving a significant number of orders from the United States, China, India, and parts of Europe.

Apple CEO Tim Cook personally welcomed customers purchasing the iPhone 15 at the launch event in New York City’s Fifth Avenue flagship store.

The overwhelming popularity of the iPhone 15 has led to delays in shipping and delivery for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. These models are now expected to reach customers by mid-November, which is at least two weeks later than initially projected, as stated by analysts from Wedbush.

But the frenzy surrounding the new iPhone wasn’t the only reason Apple stores were crowded on Friday. In Paris, approximately 40 Apple employees gathered in front of the company’s flagship store during heavy rain to protest for higher wages. They were joined by over 2,000 Apple employees across France who are currently on strike against the smartphone giant.
