Indio is launching a unique seven-week program next week that aims to foster a deeper understanding of the city’s operations and encourage residents to drive change.
Scheduled to begin on September 12, the Indio Leadership Academy will feature focused sessions with various city officials, along with a light dinner and refreshments. The program will conclude on October 24 with a graduation ceremony for all participating students.
“Through an engaging series of sessions, department members will reveal the critical tasks that keep Indio running smoothly and efficiently,” stated city officials on July 24.
“From essential services that impact our residents’ lives to innovative projects shaping our city’s future, participants will have the unique opportunity to witness firsthand the true heartbeat of Indio.”
The sessions will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. every Tuesday until October 24.
The first session will provide an introduction to the city’s government, featuring City Manager Bryan Montgomery, Deputy City Manager Scott Trujillo, and City Clerk Administrator Sabdi Sanchez.
Additional sessions will cover topics such as Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology, Community Development and Economic Development, Public Works, Engineering, Capital Projects and IWA, Community Services, Teen Center, Senior Center, and Arts and Public Safety.
The program is limited to 25 participants over the age of 18. Interested residents submitted their applications to Jose Ramirez, the city’s management analyst. According to Ramirez, the spots filled up quickly, and city officials are hopeful to host more programs in the future.
