United Airlines pilot’s license suspended due to appearing intoxicated on duty

A United Airlines pilot has been sentenced by a French court to a six-month suspended prison term and one-year suspended license for showing up to work intoxicated, as reported by local media outlets.

The pilot, identified as 63-year-old American “Henry W.” in French media, arrived at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport with a blood alcohol content three times the legal limit for pilots in Europe. Although there are conflicting reports on the destination, United Airlines confirmed that the flight was headed to Washington Dulles International Airport.

United Airlines responded to the incident by stating, “The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority. We hold all our employees to the highest standards and have a strict no-tolerance policy for alcohol. This employee was immediately removed from service, and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.”

According to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, by the National Gendarmerie, the pilot’s license has been suspended for a year. The incident took place at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
