‘Unforgettable Ski Adventures: Exploring the Majestic Alps in an Electric Car’

My Unforgettable and Eco-friendly Trip to Zermatt through Europe’s Tesla Supercharger Network

When it comes to ski trips, I have always preferred traveling by train. However, last year, I decided to embark on a low-carbon adventure and drove my electric car to the French and Swiss Alps. To my surprise, it turned out to be my favorite ski holiday yet.

Before leaving the UK, I couldn’t help but feel a little range-anxiety. However, thanks to the incredible Tesla supercharger network spread across Europe, that worry quickly vanished. I found plenty of EV chargers in Chamonix, and during my visit to Zermatt, I parked and charged my car in Täsch. From there, I caught a convenient and quick 10-minute shuttle train to car-free Zermatt. It was a seamless journey that left me in awe of the incredible infrastructure in place to support electric vehicles.

Exploring the French Pyrenees via Brittany Ferries

As someone who values sustainability and avoids flying whenever possible, planning a ski trip for my family of five presented a significant challenge. However, earlier this year, I finally found the perfect solution. Brittany Ferries introduced a new liquefied natural gas-powered ship that offers a relaxing travel option from Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao. It was an ideal choice for us.

Once we reached our destination, La Pierre Saint Martin, a charming resort certified with the prestigious Flocon Vert (Green Snowflake) label, we enjoyed a memorable four-hour car journey across the French border. The resort, with its compact size, diverse ski runs, stunning views, affordability, and proximity to delightful Pyrenean villages, proved to be an amazing alternative to the Alps.

The Perfect Blend of Relaxation and Adventure in the Alpes-Maritimes

For a unique ski experience in southeast France, my family and I decided to take the Eurostar from London to Paris and then the sleeper train from Paris to Nice. The entire journey took less than nine hours, and from Nice, we took a bus inland for 60 miles to reach Isola 2000, the highest ski resort in the Alpes-Maritimes region.

Aside from the fantastic skiing, one highlight of our trip was the “cocoon of wellbeing” yurt located in the town square, where we could participate in rejuvenating activities like yoga, stretching, muscle-strengthening, or dance classes in the evenings. It was the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Embracing Eco-friendly Travel to Arc 2000

Arc 2000, situated in the beautiful French Alps, has become one of our favorite ski destinations. Not only is it easily accessible by public transport, with direct trains running from Paris to Bourg-St-Maurice during the ski season, but your train ticket also includes a free transfer up the mountain via a funicular and shuttle bus.

In December 2020, Les Arcs made history by becoming the first resort in Savoie to receive the prestigious Flocon Vert status for its eco-credentials. The resort is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030, with initiatives such as installing solar panels on ski lifts and striving towards zero plastic waste through the installation of new water fountains (which are even labeled on the piste map). It’s a remarkable achievement that showcases their dedication to sustainability.

Unbeatable Value and Convenience in La Plagne

To make the most of our ski trip, we decided to take the Eurostar Snow train from St Pancras International all the way to Bourg-St-Maurice. This not only saved us a significant amount of money but also gave us an extra day of skiing. From Bourg-St-Maurice, we hopped on a bus that took us up to La Plagne 1800, where we were able to walk to our self-catering chalet hotel. With lift passes and ski hire included, the package cost us only £800 per person.

Unforgettable Train Travel to the Austrian Tirol

When planning my trip to the Austrian Tirol region, I relied on the snowcarbon.co.uk website to help me organize and book my train journey. I took the Eurostar from London to Brussels, then connected to a high-speed train called the Intercity-Express (ICE) that took me into Germany. Finally, I caught a connecting service to the Kitzbühel ski resort, where I stayed.

What made my experience even more memorable was the extensive network of electric buses in Kitzbühel, as well as the free travel on the Streifzug train, which connected me to other resorts such as St Johann. It was a convenient and environmentally friendly way to explore the region.

In conclusion, my low-carbon ski trips have not only allowed me to enjoy incredible winter landscapes and thrilling ski runs but have also shown me the remarkable possibilities of sustainable and eco-friendly travel. By embracing electric cars, efficient train systems, and eco-certified resorts, we can make a positive impact on the environment without compromising on the experiences we love.
