Unexpected Error Diverts European Lawmakers’ Train Journey to Disneyland

In an extraordinary turn of events on Monday morning, hundreds of members of the European Parliament found themselves diverted to Disneyland Paris. The MEPs were traveling from Brussels to Strasbourg by train when a rail signaling error caused them to end up at the Marne-la-Vallée, the stop for Disneyland Paris. Despite the diversion, the delay was only 45 minutes, and rail officials have apologized for the inconvenience.

The incident made Disneyland a trending topic on social media in Brussels, as politicians made light-hearted jokes about their unexpected detour. However, according to the Guardian, some lawmakers were genuinely frustrated by the parliament’s location in Strasbourg, France, due to the lack of a direct train route from Brussels. Passengers are required to either pass through Paris or change trains near Disneyland Paris. Politico EU further clarifies that the parliament charters trains each month specifically for lawmakers and officials to commute between Brussels and Strasbourg, but this time, they took a wrong turn.

“The driver had to go to the other end of the train, restart it, and head in the opposite direction,” explained one official. Other passengers on the train jokingly expressed their disappointment at not being allowed to disembark. One individual even suggested adopting Disneyland’s slogan, “When magic comes to life.” And, of course, someone made the obvious joke, stating, “We are NOT a Mickey Mouse Parliament.” (Read more strange stuff stories.)
