A thrilling event unfolded at Walt Disney World on Monday, as an unexpected visitor made an appearance. It wasn’t part of a country jamboree, but rather a black bear that caused quite a stir.
In the morning, nearly half of the park had to be closed when the bear was spotted perched in a tree near Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland, according to WDWMagic.com.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission (FWC) acted swiftly to apprehend the adult female bear, as stated by a spokesperson from Walt Disney World to HuffPost.
Due to safety concerns, several popular rides such as the Country Bear Jamboree, Big Thunder Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise had to be temporarily closed.
Orlando ABC affiliate WFTV reported information provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission, stating that wildlife biologists and law enforcement officers promptly arrived at the park to handle the situation.
The spokesperson remarked, “In most cases, it is best for bears to be given space and to move along on their own, but given this situation, staff are working on capturing and relocating the bear.”
The agency spokesperson further explained that bears tend to be more active during the fall as they prepare for winter hibernation and gather food.
The dramatic rescue efforts came to an end around 1 p.m. when Frontierland, Liberty Square, and Adventureland were reopened. Observers witnessed officials carrying a large black figure covered in a white tarp at around 1:15 p.m., marking the successful conclusion.
