Unbeatable Teams Dominate Super League: Exciting Advancements for Adamson and UST

Adamson Lady Falcons and University of Santo Tomas (UST) emerged victorious in their respective matches to maintain their unbeaten records in the 2023 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Collegiate Pre-Season Championship Season 2. The Lady Falcons dominated the Lyceum Lady Pirates with a final score of 25-16, 25-16, 25-13 thanks to the outstanding performances of Lucille Almonte, Red Bascon, and transferee Barbie Jamili, who each contributed seven points. Middle blockers Lorene Toring and Sharrya Ancheta also made significant contributions to the team, combining for 11 points. Adamson coach JP Yude expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance so far but highlighted the need to continue developing their young players and building chemistry in order to face stronger opponents in the upcoming rounds.

Adamson’s victory also resulted in the qualification of Arellano, who won two out of three matches in Pool B. On the other hand, Lyceum failed to advance with a 1-2 record. The Lady Falcons are determined to sweep their group against the winless San Beda Lady Red Spikers in their next match.

In another match, UST secured a three-game sweep in Pool C by defeating the reigning NCAA champion College of Saint Benilde with a score of 25-13, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22. Jonna Perdido led the Golden Tigresses to victory with an impressive 20 points, all coming from attacks. Regina Jurado and rookie Angeline Poyos also made significant contributions, scoring 19 and 17 points respectively. Despite their success, UST coach KungFu Reyes acknowledged that there is still room for improvement and emphasized the need for consistency in the next round.

In Pool D, Perpetual Help stayed in contention with a 1-1 record after defeating Letran with a score of 25-9, 25-17, 25-17. Defending champion National University and Far Eastern University have also qualified for the next round with 2-0 records in Pool A and Pool D respectively.

Adamson coach Yude identified NU and UST as the biggest challenges in the pre-season tournament but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome them with their dedicated effort and team chemistry. Mapua secured its first win in Pool D by defeating Emilio Aguinaldo College with a score of 25-19, 29-27, 25-11, but their fate lies in the hands of Ateneo in the last two games of the group.
