President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine expressed confidence that the counteroffensive against Russian forces would soon gain momentum, addressing concerns of western governments about the operation’s slow progress. UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly acknowledged the differing priorities between Ukraine and other countries, causing a mismatch in expectations and commitments.
Amidst frustrations from the Biden administration regarding criticisms from Ukraine and NATO allies, Senator Jim Risch, the top Republican on the Senate foreign relations committee, urged for quicker assistance in the form of main battle tanks and cluster munitions. Sullivan addressed concerns about American decision-making and emphasized the US’s commitment to providing support to Ukraine, stating that considerations of Russian reactions were necessary for global stability.
