Ukrainian officials report Russia initiating a series of drone strikes on Kyiv

Russia has executed a fresh series of drone strikes on Kyiv during the night, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack, which lasted for one hour, was successfully intercepted by Ukrainian air defense forces, as reported by Kyiv’s city military administration on Telegram. Fortunately, there were no direct hits on the city, although some debris caused damage to homes in two districts. It has been reported that one man sustained a leg injury, but there were no other casualties. The exact number of drones launched at the capital is currently unknown.

According to Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv city military, preliminary findings have determined that the drones used in the attack were Iranian-made Shahed exploding drones. This marks the first time in 12 days that Russian forces have employed these weapons to target Kyiv. As the region approaches 500 days since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, the country is in the early stages of its highly anticipated counteroffensive while facing ongoing shelling from Moscow throughout the nation.

On Friday and Saturday, there were additional reports of civilian casualties resulting from Russian shelling in the eastern and southern regions of the country, with some areas experiencing continued shelling on Sunday.
