Ukraine’s Drone Near Moscow Reportedly Intercepted by Russia

Russia’s Defense Ministry announced early Friday that it successfully downed a drone targeting the Moscow region, attributing the attack to Ukraine. This incident marked the second attempted drone attack near the Russian capital within a week, following a similar attack on Monday. However, the authenticity of these claims could not be independently verified, and Ukraine has not commented on the allegations.

Luckily, the Russian defense ministry confirmed that no casualties or damage occurred from Friday’s drone strike. Notably, President Vladimir V. Putin was hosting African leaders at a summit in St. Petersburg, approximately 400 miles away from Moscow at the time.

Since May, Moscow has experienced several drone attacks of varying intensity, resonating with the conflict overseen by Putin that had previously been distant for the capital’s residents.

Regarding the Monday strike, Moscow reported intercepting the drone near a prominent avenue in an affluent area, close to the Russian National Defense Management Center. Video evidence, verified by The New York Times, depicted damage in multiple locations near the Moskva River in the southern part of the city.
