June 15 (UPI) — The United States, Britain, Denmark, and the Netherlands have jointly announced new aid to Ukraine.

The British Ministry of Defense, along with its U.S., Danish, and Dutch allies, released a joint statement stating that they will be partnering to provide high priority air defense equipment to Ukraine. This collaboration involves the delivery of hundreds of short and medium-range air defense missiles and associated systems, necessary for protecting Ukraine’s critical national infrastructure and ensuring the success of counter-offensive operations in the coming months.

The delivery of the equipment has already commenced and is expected to be completed within several weeks, according to the Defense Ministry.

During the 13th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels, Belgium, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized the significance of air defense. Austin urged the contact group to continue supporting Ukraine by providing the urgently needed air-defense assets and munitions, stating that Ukraine’s fight is a marathon, not a sprint. He also expressed the commitment to adapt assistance according to changing circumstances and needs of Ukraine’s forces, praising the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people.

Austin extended his gratitude to the 50 nations that have offered Ukraine training and equipment and specifically mentioned the Netherlands and Denmark for their efforts in training Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation aircraft, including the F-16.

Highlighting the need for sustained support, the U.S. Defense Department emphasized that assistance to Ukraine must continue for the long haul.

Earlier this week, the British-led Joint Expeditionary Force, consisting of 10 European nations, announced a $116 million air defense package for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Joint Expeditionary Force allies, acknowledging the significance of enhanced air defense capabilities in protecting Ukraine’s skies and the lives of its citizens. The United States also announced its own new defense aid package worth $321 million.
