Ukraine Faces Accusations from Russia over Another Moscow Drone Attack

In the latest development, Russian authorities have accused Kyiv of carrying out another drone attack on Moscow and its surroundings. This comes just days after a similar attack occurred on Sunday. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that two Ukrainian drones were shot down outside Moscow, while another was jammed and crashed into a skyscraper in the Moscow City business district, causing damage to the building’s facade. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that this was the same building that was hit in the previous attack.

These repeated drone strikes highlight Moscow’s vulnerability as the war in Ukraine continues into its 18th month. Russian officials have attributed these attacks to failures in Ukraine’s counteroffensive, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that the war is gradually moving back to Russian territory. However, he did not directly claim responsibility for the attacks.

It remains unclear why the same building was targeted twice in succession. The Russian military stated that the drones were jammed before crashing into the skyscraper. The mayor reported that the drone hit the 21st floor of the building, which houses government agencies. Photos from the scene showed significant damage to the building’s glass facade.

In addition to the drone attacks in Moscow, Russian forces reported that Ukrainian forces attempted to attack two of their warships in the Black Sea using maritime drones. All three drones were destroyed in the incident. These attacks on Moscow and Crimea follow a deadly Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, a city in central Ukraine.

It is important to note that Associated Press writer Hanna Arhirova contributed to this report from Kyiv, Ukraine.
