A U.S. official stated on Monday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un might soon visit Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin, as the Kremlin seeks to acquire military equipment for use in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press, revealed that Kim’s trip is expected to take place within the month. The exact location and date of the meeting are currently uncertain, but the Pacific port city of Vladivostok is a likely possibility due to its proximity to North Korea.
National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson mentioned that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu recently traveled to Pyongyang, where he attempted to persuade North Korea to sell artillery ammunition to Russia.
Watson stated, “We have information that Kim Jong Un intends for these discussions to continue, including engaging in diplomatic talks with Russia at the leader level.”
