U.S. Consulate Issues Alert as Fatal Gun Battle Erupts in Mexican Border City Resulting in 4 Casualties

Mexico City — A shootout with Mexican marines in the border city of Matamoros resulted in the death of four individuals on Monday. The U.S. consulate in the nearby city of Brownsville, Texas issued a shelter in place alert in response to the incident.

The clash occurred during an operation related to a kidnapping investigation, as reported by the Tamaulipas state communications office through X (formerly known as Twitter). The office confirmed that four civilians were killed and guns and radios were recovered. Fortunately, no marines were injured.

The Navy confirmed the involvement of their personnel in the incident but did not disclose any further details.

The federal Attorney General’s Office did not provide any information when approached for comment.

On Monday morning, the U.S. Consulate in Matamoros alerted its employees via X (formerly known as Twitter) to shelter in place until 1:30 p.m. due to ongoing gun violence in the city.

In March, four Americans were abducted in Matamoros, resulting in the death of two individuals before they could be rescued. The area is known for the presence of cells belonging to the Gulf cartel and other organized crime groups.
