Tyrese Gibson files $1M lawsuit against Home Depot, alleging ‘racial profiling’

Actor Tyrese Gibson, a prominent figure in movies such as “Fast and Furious,” has filed a lawsuit against Home Depot for reportedly being a victim of racial profiling. The incident took place at the store in West Hills, California, on February 11. Along with two associates, Gibson claims to have experienced discriminatory mistreatment and racial profiling while shopping at the home improvement store. Seeking justice, Gibson and his co-plaintiffs, Eric Mora and Manuel Hernandez, are suing for over $1 million in damages, equivalent to the amount Gibson has spent at the store over the years, as well as punitive damages. The lawsuit also accuses Home Depot of negligent hiring, supervision, and retention practices.

In response to the allegations, Home Depot released a statement expressing their appreciation for Gibson as a customer and emphasizing their commitment to diversity and respect for everyone. They claim to have reached out to Gibson and his legal representation multiple times in an attempt to address their concerns and resolve the issue.

However, Gibson and his co-plaintiffs argue that the store has failed to take responsibility for the incident and instead treated them with indifference. They feel marginalized and unsupported. The altercation began when Gibson decided to have his associates pay for their items with his credit card while he went out to the car due to being recognized by fans. Upon his return, the cashier refused to complete the transaction, citing store policy and demanding identification. The manager allegedly refused to speak to Gibson as well. After a heated discussion, Gibson was finally allowed to proceed with the purchase. A YouTube video capturing the incident shows the cashier’s refusal to provide her last name, further fueling Gibson’s belief that the encounter was racially motivated.

Gibson firmly believes that he, along with Mora and Hernandez, was targeted based on their skin color and national origin. The lawsuit argues that Home Depot employees intentionally interfered with and refused service to the plaintiffs due to unfounded suspicion arising from their appearance. As a result, Gibson and his associates have experienced shame, humiliation, and emotional distress.

A video clip of the incident, along with a FaceTime call between Gibson and the cashier after leaving the store, was uploaded to YouTube, corroborating the claims made in the lawsuit. The Post has reached out to Gibson’s representatives for further comment on the matter.
