Authorities in Long Beach are currently investigating two shooting incidents that occurred on Independence Day.
Police officers were dispatched on Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. to the 5400 block of Cherry Avenue after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered evidence such as bullet casings and strike marks, confirming that a shooting had indeed taken place. According to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department, it was revealed that a verbal altercation had ensued among multiple individuals in the parking lot of a supermarket. During this altercation, a male suspect discharged a firearm before fleeing the scene on foot.
Officers established a perimeter and initially suspected that the suspect might have sought refuge inside the supermarket. However, after thoroughly searching the area, they concluded that it was safe and the suspect was not found.
Later that night, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue regarding another shooting incident. Upon investigation, it was determined that the shooting was aimed at an inhabited dwelling, although no individuals were injured. Bullet casings and strike markings were discovered, indicating that a shooting had taken place.
The individual who reported the incident stated that they were standing in front of their residence when they heard gunfire originating from a nearby street. Subsequently, they noticed that their residence had been struck by gunfire. No suspect information is currently available.
