A woman aged 24, who was driving for Tony Stewart Racing, tragically lost her life on Friday after being ejected from the car she was traveling in on an Indiana highway.

According to a Facebook post by the Indiana State Police, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on northbound Interstate 65 in Jackson County. Ashlea Albertson, a passenger in one of the vehicles involved, was sadly killed.

Albertson, who was a driver for Tony Stewart Racing, was also part of the All Star Circuit of Champions TQ Midgets and had recently raced in Indianapolis. She was a young and talented racer, as seen in her racing records.

According to the state police, the accident occurred when a 22-year-old driver in a Chevrolet Malibu and a 31-year-old driver in a GMC Terrain began accelerating rapidly and refused to let each other pass on I-65.

As the Malibu attempted to move into the Terrain’s lane, the Terrain’s driver lost control, resulting in a collision. Albertson was ejected from the car when it rolled over.

Albertson was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. The drivers and a juvenile passenger in the Malibu sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at local hospitals.

Tony Stewart, the creator of Tony Stewart Racing and a three-time NASCAR champion, expressed his grief in a Facebook post, describing Albertson as an individual with an infectious personality who brightened any room.

Stewart also admitted to his own past involvement in road rage incidents and emphasized the tragedy of Albertson’s death resulting from a road rage accident.

Police have not officially confirmed whether the incident was caused by road rage.

During his NASCAR career, Stewart had previous run-ins with anger management, facing fines and probation for various displays of anger towards others.

In a video post on Facebook, Todd Albertson, Ashlea’s father, emotionally shared the news of her death and described her as a good person who loved racing and the racing community.

Toxicology results related to the incident are still pending, and CNN has sought further comment from the police.
