Tugboat Collides with Tanker and Sinks in the Suez Canal

A tragic incident occurred in the Suez Canal as a tugboat collided with an LPG tanker flying the Hong Kong flag, resulting in the sinking of the tugboat. The canal authority confirmed this unfortunate event on Saturday, and sadly, one of the crew members on the tugboat lost their life, as reported by their family.

Meanwhile, the LPG tanker, named Chinagas Legend, is currently stationed in Port Said until the necessary accident procedures are completed, according to Osama Rabie, the head of the canal authority.

Notably, the collision did not cause any harm to the Chinagas Legend as it remains fully functional and securely anchored in Port Said, as confirmed by two canal sources.

Tragically, the deceased crew member has been identified as Sayed Moussa, a mechanic hailing from Port Said, as relayed by his grieving family.

Moving forward, efforts are underway to rescue the seven individuals who were on board the sunken tugboat, Fahd. A crane has been deployed to retrieve the submerged vessel, further mentioned by Rabie.

In a related incident, it has been reported that the remaining six crew members from the tugboat have been successfully rescued and transferred to a hospital, according to additional canal sources.

The sheer size of the Chinagas Legend is remarkable, measuring 230 meters (755 feet) in length and 36 meters (118 feet) in width. It carries a substantial cargo, approximately 52,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), while on its journey from Singapore to the United States.
