TSB Canada initiates investigation into Titan submarine after the return of Polar Prince

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has officially begun conducting interviews with passengers who were aboard the Polar Prince following the ship’s return to St. John’s, Newfoundland. The TSB is investigating the implosion of the Titan submersible, which was on an expedition to explore the Titanic. The submersible lost communication with the ship during its descent, leading to a five-day search for the lost vessel. On Thursday, debris belonging to OceanGate Expedition’s Titan was discovered near the Titanic, indicating a tragic outcome. TSB investigators have boarded the Polar Prince, where they interviewed family members of the five passengers who were on the Titan, along with members of the support team. The TSB investigation may take between 18 months and two years, and an update will be provided in the coming days. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has also launched an investigation into the events leading up to the tragedy, though there is currently no suspicion of criminal activity. The TSB’s investigation aims to identify what happened during the submersible’s descent, the reason for the implosion, and how to prevent similar incidents in the future.
