Tropical Storm Hilary poses threat to Oregon and Idaho following heavy rainfall in Southern California and Nevada

Tropical Storm Hilary continues its path towards Oregon and Idaho, following heavy rains in Southern California. The National Hurricane Center issued a warning on Monday morning, stating that localized flash flooding could occur in parts of Oregon and Idaho as the storm moves through. The center advised that rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches, with potential for higher amounts, are expected through Tuesday morning. It’s important to note that the risks persist for areas already affected by Hilary, as “continued life-threatening and locally catastrophic flooding” is possible. Flood watches are in effect for several states, including Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, and Utah. Additionally, high-wind advisories are in place for parts of Nevada, Idaho, Montana, and Utah.

The storm’s movement towards the Northwest and Mountain West regions coincides with ongoing wildfires, contributing to poor air quality in Seattle and Portland. As a post-tropical cyclone, Hilary poses additional challenges for the affected areas.
