Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has taken action in light of the ongoing investigation by Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau. S. Iswaran, who is currently assisting with the investigation, has been asked to go on leave until the investigation is completed. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong provided these details in a statement released on Wednesday. The Prime Minister did not provide specific information on the case.

To ensure effective governance, Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat will temporarily assume the role of acting minister for transport. It is important to note that Minister Iswaran also holds responsibilities in Singapore’s trade relations.

This recent announcement follows a state review conducted on allegations made against two other cabinet ministers regarding their rental of government-owned colonial bungalows. The review, led by a senior member of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s cabinet, found no evidence of corruption or abuse of power against Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. Consequently, neither of the two ministers were required to take leave during the investigation.

S. Iswaran has had an extensive political career since his entry into politics during the 1997 elections. He is a Harvard-educated politician who has held various positions in the government, including ministries for education, home affairs, trade and industry, and communications and information. Prior to his political career, Iswaran served as the senior vice president and managing director at state investor Temasek Holdings.

Singapore is known for having the highest salaries for its ministers globally. The country prides itself on its clean reputation and currently ranks fifth on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index.
