Sept. 4 (UPI) — The American trainer for British professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr. was apprehended at an airport in Manchester and charged with weapon possession, as confirmed by the Greater Manchester Police.

Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, who was preparing to board a flight back to the United States, was stopped by security late Sunday, according to the police.

Subsequently, armed officers were dispatched to the terminal where the authorities discovered a firearm in the luggage of the 53-year-old trainer, leading to his arrest.

McIntyre, who had intended to fly to Atlanta, is currently held in custody until his court hearing on October 9.

He is facing charges of firearm possession and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

Prior to the match between Eubank and Liam Smith, which took place on Saturday and attracted significant anticipation, McIntyre had been hired by Eubank based on his successful collaboration with Terence Crawford, an American boxer with multiple championship titles.

“I have complete trust in what I’m being told,” Eubank told Sky Sports last month when asked about his decision to work with McIntyre.

“This was a crucial factor for me. I don’t want any doubts or uncertainties about whether a strategy will work or if it’s the right approach. Yes, it is because this man has a proven track record at the highest levels for many years. So, I have complete trust in these guys.”

Eubank, the son of Christopher Eubank Sr., who is renowned as one of Britain’s finest super-middleweight boxers, emerged victorious in the match against Liam Smith, achieving a 10th-round stoppage win in Manchester.
