Tragic Brussels Incident: Police Confirm 2 Swedish Citizens Fatally Shot – Terrorism Suspected

In a tragic incident on Monday night, two Swedes were fatally shot in central Brussels, according to the police. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo of Belgium has suggested that the attack may be linked to “terrorism” and has called for an emergency meeting of top Cabinet ministers.

De Croo expressed his heartfelt condolences to @SwedishPM in the wake of this horrifying attack on Swedish citizens in Brussels. He emphasized that the fight against terrorism is a joint effort between close partners.

It is currently unclear whether the shooting is connected to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which has caused significant international tension.

Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden described the shooting as “horrible” and confirmed that the perpetrator is actively being pursued. Verlinden will be participating in government discussions at the National Crisis Center.

Amateur videos circulating in the media show a man firing multiple shots near a station using a large weapon.

A police official, speaking anonymously due to lack of authorization, revealed that the two victims were Swedish nationals.

The Swedish national soccer team was scheduled to play against Belgium at Heysel Stadium later in the evening, just 3 miles (5 kilometers) away from the shooting incident.

Police spokeswoman Ilse Vande Keere confirmed that officers swiftly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the immediate vicinity. However, she refrained from providing further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

This shooting comes at a time of heightened vigilance due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, which has increased tensions in several European countries. Additionally, Brussels has recently witnessed a surge in violence related to international drug trafficking.
