LUCENA CITY — On Wednesday, July 26, the police reported that a Norwegian national drowned after being swept away by big waves while swimming in the waters off Calatagan town in Batangas province.

According to the Region 4A police, Gorgan Hagesater, 42, and his companion Christian Atle Hanse, 43, went swimming around 1:30 p.m. in Casa Castillero Resort in Barangay Sta. Ana despite the bad weather caused by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).

The two were swept away by strong currents and dragged to the deeper part of the sea when they were around 200 meters away from the shoreline.

Hanse managed to hold on to a life ring buoy, but sadly, Hagesater could not resist the force of the waves and was carried away.

Hanse was immediately taken to the nearest hospital and is now in stable condition.

The search-and-rescue operation found Hagesater’s body later in the afternoon.

The report mentioned that the two Norwegians are residents of Pasig City, but it did not specify if they were tourists.
