Tourist Expresses Disgust Over Filthy Find at Beach Oasis

A tourist, who happens to own a sustainable swimwear company, expressed her disgust at the amount of trash floating in the ocean waters of Bali, Indonesia. Sara Walsh, a 25-year-old entrepreneur from Massachusetts, visited the Indonesian island for a business trip to the factory that manufactures her line of swimsuits. Despite Bali’s reputation as a vacation destination with its scenic beauty and historic temples, Walsh was appalled by the sight of trash littering the waters where vacationers usually enjoy snorkeling and swimming.

During a snorkeling trip with her brother in April, Walsh was taken aback when she encountered the floating trash. She recalled that the tour guides didn’t appear to see any issue with it and even encouraged people to get in the water. However, most of the vacationers quickly changed their minds and returned to the boat due to the overwhelmingly disgusting condition of the water.

As the founder of Siren Swim Co., a swimwear brand that focuses on using recycled plastic, Walsh launched her company with the goal of cleaning up the oceans. She specifically selected a factory in Bali because of the island’s severe ocean pollution. Witnessing the dire situation firsthand, Walsh felt compelled to capture the scene on video in the hopes of raising awareness about the urgent need to address ocean pollution.

While Walsh noted that other snorkeling spots they visited were not as heavily trashed, she emphasized the need to take responsibility for the garbage that ends up in our oceans. She expressed her concern for the marine animals that suffer from the consequences of human negligence.

Overall, Walsh’s experience serves as a reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship and the urgent need to address the issue of ocean pollution.
