Tom Cruise: My Elusive Pursuit

“The airport is just a couple of miles away,” he whispered. “Look for the largest house around.”

“It’s a historic house,” he continued. “It played a significant role in the abolition of slavery.”

I was already familiar with this property from my previous research. It was a grand yellow manor once owned by Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger. However, it was sold in 2018 for £8.5 million to a used-car magnate. Despite this, it was still a short distance away, around an hour’s walk.

I’m not sure how I ended up near the woman’s private field again. The journey seemed to take me through unfamiliar areas. Suddenly, I found myself in a dense forest, just like the day before when I accidentally trespassed on her land. As I looked up, her house appeared in the distance, and panic set in.

I startled a badger and hurriedly ran through the forest in a different direction. This led me to a vast field I had never encountered before. The cow parsley in this field was taller and overgrown, causing me to feel a sense of panic. I reassured myself that statistically, I wouldn’t be trapped in the field for too long.

Although, wouldn’t it be ironic if I died in this field near hers, where I wasn’t allowed? I sarcastically remarked into my audio recorder, which I had brought along in case I ran into Tom Cruise. I thought about finding a way to let her know about my demise. Perhaps if my picture appeared in the newspaper, she would see it. It would serve as a lesson for her. I also pondered how my death would impact the editor who assigned me this article and approved my travel budget. It might ruin his work life, or even lead to his termination. I couldn’t help but think, “You should never have sent her to a small English town.”

But dying wasn’t my intention. I wanted to live and continue doing what I loved—making people feel the consequences of their actions. Before I could dwell further on these thoughts, I realized I had stumbled upon a dirt path in the middle of the field. It led to a neighborhood, and to my surprise, it was the same direction as the used-car dealer’s mansion.
