According to the lottery’s website, the Mega Millions jackpot, estimated at $1.58 billion, was won by a ticket sold in Florida. This is expected to be the largest jackpot in the history of the lottery.
The winning numbers for the jackpot were 13, 19, 20, 32, 33 with a gold Mega Ball of 14.
The winning ticket was sold at a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, Florida, according to the state’s lottery.
If confirmed at that level, the $1.58 billion jackpot would surpass the previous record of $1.537 billion won in South Carolina in 2018, as stated by the lottery.
The winner of the jackpot has the option to receive the full amount in annual payments over 29 years or choose a lump sum payment of approximately $783 million before taxes, according to Mega Millions.
The largest lottery jackpot ever was a $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in California last year.
Several other tickets sold in Tuesday’s drawing also won significant prizes.
Two tickets sold in Florida and North Carolina won $2 million each by matching the first five numbers and using the optional Megaplier.
Five tickets matched the first five numbers without the Megaplier and won at least $1 million. These tickets were sold in California, Pennsylvania, Texas (two winners), and West Virginia.
The value of the California ticket sold in Hilmar will be $3.38 million, as California’s prizes vary based on ticket sales and the number of winners.
The California lottery announced on Twitter that a ticket matching five numbers was sold at Super Mac Food & Gas in Hilmar, earning $3,383,371.
The Mega Millions jackpot had been increasing for months and was last won in New York on April 18. The jackpot for the next drawing is reset to $20 million.
