Anaheim authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the tragic motorcycle accident that claimed the life of Cpl. Han Cho, an off-duty officer from the Garden Grove Police Department and a devoted father of two.
Cpl. Han Cho, who was assigned to the Neighborhood Traffic Unit and had served for 28 years, sustained fatal injuries while riding his motorcycle at the intersection of Glenoaks Avenue and Euclid Street at around 3 p.m. on Monday, as reported by the police.
Sgt. Jon McClintock of the Anaheim Police Department stated that the officer was immediately rushed to a hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later on. The other driver involved in the accident was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries, he added.
At this time, the age of Cpl. Han Cho has not been disclosed.
Authorities do not suspect that alcohol played a role in causing the accident, McClintock confirmed.
According to Garden Grove police, the collision occurred while Cho was on his way home from work.
The Garden Grove Police Association will collaborate with the Cho family to organize memorials and accept donations, according to a statement from the department. Further details will be provided at a later time. We are grateful for the support we have received from the local law enforcement community and the community in general as we navigate through this difficult period.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Cho, where it is mentioned that he is survived by his teenage son, daughter, parents, two sisters, brother, and niece.
“Han was deeply cherished by many, and his sudden demise has left us all in a state of shock and disbelief,” expressed Cho’s sister, Sonya Chung, on the page. As of Tuesday night, the page had already raised nearly $7,000 out of the $40,000 goal.
The funds raised will aid in covering the funeral expenses as well as ensuring that his two young children are supported as they navigate their lives without their father,” Chung added.
