The White House Strongly Condemns Brutal Attack on Cuban Embassy in Washington D.C.

The White House strongly condemned the brazen attack on the Cuban embassy in Washington, D.C., on Sunday night, where a man allegedly threw two Molotov cocktails at the building.

Addressing the incident, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan emphasized, “Attacks against diplomatic facilities are completely unacceptable.” The White House is closely coordinating with Cuban embassy officials and law enforcement authorities to ensure a prompt and thorough investigation. They are also providing support for future safety measures, as stated in an official statement.

Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla promptly reported the terrorist attack against the embassy. On X, formerly known as Twitter, he shared images of the aftermath and expressed his condemnation. He explained that this act of terrorism stems from the moral bankruptcy and deep-seated hatred displayed by anti-Cuban groups. He also criticized the perceived impunity they feel they have, as noted in his official statement posted on his X account.

This incident occurred shortly after Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel’s departure from the United States. He had attended this year’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York before returning to his country.

The U.S. Secret Service immediately responded to the attack after receiving notification from Cuban Embassy officials. Steven Kopek, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, confirmed that there was no significant damage or fire to the building. Currently, no suspects are in custody, and the Secret Service is collaborating with embassy officials and other relevant authorities, including the DC Police and the United States Department of State, to conduct a thorough investigation.
