The Unstoppable Chain of Weaponized Hatred: An Alarming Threat for Nations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a warning to world leaders, stating that Russia is “weaponizing” various aspects, including food, energy, and even abducted children, in its war against Ukraine. He emphasized that the same tactics could be employed against other nations, threatening the international rules-based order. Zelensky made these remarks during the annual top-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.

The war in Ukraine has caused significant disruptions in global supply chains, exacerbating the already existing challenges caused by the pandemic. This has led to a substantial increase in food and energy prices, impacting the global economy and causing hardship in many developing countries. Zelensky highlighted the food and fuel shortages, as well as the alleged kidnappings of tens of thousands of children from Ukraine after Russia’s invasion. He condemned this as a form of genocide, as these children are taught to hate Ukraine and lose all connections to their families. Zelensky’s remarks exceeded the usual 15-minute time limit of the meeting.

President Biden also addressed the assembly, calling for a united front against Russia’s aggression. He emphasized the need to deter future aggressors and stand against naked aggression. Russia’s opportunity to address the General Assembly will come on Saturday. Deputy UN Ambassador Dmitry Polyansky, who represented Russia, dismissed Zelensky’s speech, claiming not to have noticed that he was speaking as he was occupied with his phone.

Upon his arrival in New York, Zelensky criticized the UN for allowing Russia, the invader of his country, a seat at the tables of power. He questioned whether there is still a place for “Russian terrorists” within the United Nations, calling on all member states to address this issue. Zelensky, who visited Ukrainian service members wounded in the conflict, awarded medals to military personnel who had lost limbs. He expressed gratitude for the support from charity organization Kind Deeds, revealing that 18 troops have received prostheses and are undergoing outpatient physical therapy. Zelensky assured those he met that their return home is eagerly anticipated and that their presence is indispensable.
