4. “Scorpion”

Many critics have pointed out Drake’s inability to refine the tracklist for “Scorpion.” The album is expansive and lacks cohesiveness, with some songs that could have been left out.

However, as noted by Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield, “with Drake, too much is the point.” His approach to music is not about creating a concise album, but rather embracing the sprawl.

It’s safe to say that most people don’t listen to “Scorpion” from start to finish. Clocking in at 89 minutes, it is Drake’s longest project to date.

But Drake doesn’t expect you to listen to the whole album front to back. He wants you to find pieces of it that you love. And on “Scorpion,” there are plenty of songs to love.

It’s hard to find a fan who doesn’t have at least a couple of “Scorpion” songs on repeat. The album features some of Drake’s most likable tracks, like the genius Mariah Carey homage “Emotionless,” the meme-able “In My Feelings,” the emo-synth jam “Summer Games,” or the ultimate summer anthem “Nice For What.”

Ending with “March 14,” a heartfelt reflection on sudden fatherhood, adds another layer of depth to the album. It leaves you feeling like you understand Drake better than before, something that is often missing from his newer releases.

Furthermore, Drake has managed to break multiple Beatles records and reshape the music industry in his own image. “Scorpion” showcases his ability to create music of monumental magnitude in a way that is uniquely Drake.
