Texas woman arrested for allegedly threatening federal judge overseeing Trump Jan. 6 case

A Texas woman has been taken into custody after allegedly sending a threatening and racially charged voicemail to the federal judge overseeing the Justice Department’s case against former President Donald Trump for election interference. The accused, Abigail Jo Shry, left a voicemail for Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is African American, stating, “You are in our sights, we want to kill you.” Prosecutors report that Shry also made similar threats against Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson Lee and the LGBTQ community in the voicemail. Special agents from the Department of Homeland Security visited Shry’s home and she admitted to making the call. She has since been arrested and charged with transmitting a threatening communication via interstate or foreign commerce. Shry remains in custody pending trial, as ordered by a Texas federal judge. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, who faces multiple criminal indictments related to overturning the 2020 election results, publicly criticized Judge Chutkan, who has been involved in cases linked to the January 6 Capitol insurrection. In a separate development, the Fulton County district attorney in Georgia handed down an indictment against Trump and 18 others for their alleged efforts to subvert the election.
