Aug. 23 (UPI) — An intriguing story unfolds in Minnesota as a teenage angler hooks more than just fish. 14-year-old Connor Halsa from Moorhead made an unexpected discovery while fishing on Lake of the Woods – a wallet filled with cash that had been lost by an Iowa farmer a year earlier.

According to Halsa, his excitement grew as his fishing line suddenly became taught. “I thought I had a massive fish, so I gave it everything I had,” he shared with WDAY-TV.

To his surprise, Halsa’s reward wasn’t a fish, but a soaked wallet containing a whopping $2,000 in cash.

Thanks to a business card found in the wallet, the rightful owner, Jim Denney, an Iowa farmer, was located. Denney revealed that he had lost his wallet while fishing on the lake a year ago, and the odds of it being found seemed slim. “The odds of ever finding or hooking a wallet in 20 feet of water – I don’t think there’s a number,” Denney exclaimed.

Denney made the journey from Iowa to Moorhead to retrieve his lost wallet. He was so grateful to Halsa that he offered a cash reward, which the teenager kindly declined. “I would take Connor as a grandson any day, and I would fight for him any day,” Denney expressed his admiration for Halsa.

In a heartwarming gesture of gratitude, Denney decided to gift Halsa a personalized cooler and treated his family to dinner.

This amazing story of a kind-hearted young man retrieving a lost item doesn’t stop there. In New Hampshire, a young man named Simon, affectionately known as “St. Simon” by the Sunapee Police Department, dove into Lake Sunapee to retrieve a stranger’s valuable item.

The incident occurred when Dianne Bonfiglio accidentally dropped her cellphone into the lake near the dock. Simon, who was on a nearby pontoon boat with friends at the time, volunteered to dive into the water and search for the lost phone.

Simon borrowed a pair of goggles from a generous worker at Harborside Trading and successfully retrieved the phone on his first dive.
