Suspected Impersonator of Doctor, Selling Fake COVID-19 Cure, Captured Following a Three-Year Pursuit

Authorities in Utah have announced the end of a three-year manhunt after the arrest of a man who allegedly posed as a doctor and sold a fake COVID-19 cure.

In a news release on Monday, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah revealed that Gordon Hunter Pedersen was apprehended during a surveillance operation last month.

Pedersen had an outstanding arrest warrant issued against him for failing to appear in federal court.

The Cedar Hills native was indicted on multiple charges including mail fraud, wire fraud, and introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce with the intent to deceive and defraud.

Court documents state that at the beginning of the pandemic, Pedersen began selling a product called “structural alkaline silver” online, claiming that it could destroy the virus by resonating at a frequency that breaks down its membrane and prevents it from infecting healthy cells.

Furthermore, Pedersen falsely portrayed himself as a board-certified “Anti-Aging Medical Doctor” and claimed to hold PhDs in immunology and Naturopathic Medicine in YouTube videos.

Pedersen is scheduled to appear in court for his initial hearing on Tuesday.

In a separate case, a Florida man and his three sons were recently convicted of using their online church to sell a toxic industrial bleach as a fraudulent COVID-19 cure, according to CBS News.
