Suspect Ordered to Face Trial for String of Stabbings, Including Fatal Attack on Woman

A 21-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial for his alleged involvement in a stabbing spree in Long Beach that occurred last year. The incident resulted in the death of a woman and multiple injuries to others.

Superior Court Judge Laura Laesecke determined that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial against Yohance Dallen Sharp. He now faces charges including murder, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, and attempted murder.

The murder charge stems from the killing of 62-year-old Tina Hook on October 17. Hook was fatally stabbed and suffered 19 sharp-force injuries in an attack captured on surveillance footage in the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue.

Sharp is also accused of attacking three other individuals, one of whom was stabbed, on October 15. Additionally, he faces charges related to five other victims, three of whom sustained injuries.

During the hearing, Long Beach police Officer Jeremy Gil testified that he encountered Sharp, whom he identified in court, wielding a knife and chasing a female jogger on October 17. The officer had been searching for a suspect in a recent stabbing at Ocean Boulevard and Fourth Place. Sharp was apprehended after he threw the knife into the air, and police later recovered the weapon.

Officer Gil also discovered surveillance video from a nearby residence in which the defendant could be heard saying, “I don’t care who I kill.”

In an interview room at the Long Beach Police Department, Sharp engaged in strange behavior, speaking to himself and even conversing with a trash can. This was revealed by Long Beach police Detective Donald Collier during questioning. However, the judge noted that these actions occurred after the killing.

The judge declared Mr. Sharp to be a danger to the community and ordered him to be held on a bail of just over $9 million.

Sharp is currently awaiting arraignment on August 4 at the Long Beach courthouse.
