Surprising Surge of Mysterious Cargo Detected in North Korea-Russia Border Rail Traffic via Satellite Imagery

Railway traffic between North Korea and Russia has experienced a significant surge in recent weeks, transporting unknown cargo.

A US-based Korean unification think tank called Beyond Parallel analyzed satellite images of railcars and transportation facilities at the border of the two countries. They discovered that the traffic volume was “far greater” than any point in the past five years.

“Following the Kim-Putin summit, satellite images as of October 5, 2023, captured a dramatic and unprecedented level of freight railcar traffic at North Korea’s Tumangang Rail Facility located on the North Korea-Russia border,” Beyond Parallel stated in a report published on Friday.

The report also stated, “Following a US government official’s statement yesterday about North Korea transferring artillery to Russia, it is likely that these shipments are intended to support Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.”

A progressive increase in the number of freight cars has been observed at the Tumangang Rail Facility in North Korea.

Previously, the maximum number of documented railcars at any given time over the past five years was 20, but now approximately 73 railcars have been spotted.
