Bleary-eyed new parents are deprived of more than two months of sleep in the first year of their child’s life.

According to a study, exhausted mothers and fathers typically miss out on four and a half hours of sleep each night. This amounts to over 31 hours a week or more than 68 days before their child turns one.

In a year, parents make an average of 975 nocturnal trips to tend to their baby, with mothers sacrificing an average of five hours of sleep compared to fathers’ three and a half hours.

However, men find it easier to get back to sleep, with 70% of them able to have a good night’s rest after being woken up, compared to only 44% of women.

Breastfeeding is also a major factor in night-time duties, with women being called upon more frequently than men.
