Student Convocation at CSUSB Palm Desert Campus Postponed

Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus has made the decision to postpone its 10th annual Student Convocation, originally scheduled for Tuesday, due to minor water damage caused by Tropical Storm Hilary. The ceremony, which welcomes students to the new academic year, was supposed to take place at the Indian Wells Theater on Cook St. at 6 p.m., according to PDC spokesman Michael Singer.

Following the storm, the campus experienced some water damage, leading to the postponement of the event. A new date for the convocation has not been determined yet, but there are no expected changes to the ceremony itself.

Once the ceremony is rescheduled, the celebration will commence with a welcoming address by interim Assistant Dean of Student Engagement, Avi Rodriuez. This will be followed by a land acknowledgement by PDC’s Associated Students Inc. Vice President, Diego Rendon.

PDC spokesman Michael Singer mentioned, “A dinner for all attendees will follow the ceremony in the courtyard of the Palm Desert Health Sciences Building. The dinner will include lawn games, a photo booth, and DJs from Paws Radio, the campus radio station.”

Other notable speakers at the convocation include CSUSB President Tomas Morales, Academic Affairs Provost and Vice President Rafik Mohamed, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Daria Graham, and PDC Associate Vice President, administrator, and alumna Renata Flores.

This convocation is a significant event that welcomes students, faculty, staff, and esteemed members of the PDC campus community into the 2023-24 academic year.
